Every address in the internet is a unique ip address but it is difficult to remember a series of numbers .. so he URL was formulated

A Uniform Resource Locator, or URL, is a standardized address for some resource (such as a document or image) on the Internet. First created by Tim Berners-Lee for use on the World Wide Web, the currently used forms are detailed by IETF standard RFC 2396 (1998).

The URL was a fundamental innovation in creating the World Wide Web. It combines into one simple address the three basic items of information necessary to find a document anywhere on the Internet:

The machine or domain name to go to
The path or file name on that machine
The protocol to use to communicate with that machine
A typical simple URL can look like:

http://www.wikipedia.com/wiki/RecentChanges
where

http: tells the protocol to use
//www.wikipedia.com tells the domain name to contact
/wiki/RecentChanges tells the path to request on that system

to paste it... first copy it , then open internet explorer or any other web browser and paste the url in the address bar of the page

URL= universe resource locator.....which bascially means its the site's address

if someone sends you a link in email, you should just be able to click the link and it will take you to that site.

if there is no link but you have address (URL) on a website somewhere and its not clickable,

right click with your mouse/drag over the url to "highlight" it and then click copy and then go to top of your browser window to the address bar and right click to paste the url in.

if that doesnt work, try highlighting the link, then go to edit, copy and then to paste in the address bar, click edit paste

If you have the URL written on a piece of paper, of course you will have to type it in the address bar manually.

A URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator is the address of the website on the internet. For example, when you type answers.yahoo.com, or simply http://yahoo.com, those addresses are url. So if you copy http://yahoo.com and paste it where you write the site name you want to go to, you are pasting the URL in the address bar.
