There's a vibrate function for when you might not hear your phone!! Why don't people use that rather than turn the volume up to max?

It's a fair point that people with hearing difficulties might not be able to hear a soft ringtone, but c'mon, you KNOW that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about jangly 'pop' ringtones and cartoon voices and such like - that evil frog thing for instance....

They may have bad hearing in some cases, my dad cant hear most of the ring tones on his phone. So he picked one that is high pitched so he doesnt miss calls. But i bet alot of people just do it to get attention "hey listen to the rap song i downloaded, im cool because i like it".

Hello,
I know I keep my cell phones ringer as loud as it will go.
While driving in my car, I listen to music. If I am listening to music, or diriving with the windows down, I cant hear my cell phone, even with the volume all the way up.
If I am in a busy store, like The Home Depot for example. They have music playing on there loud speakers, plus people in the isles talking and shuffling around, plus fork lifts going by. I usually dont hear my cell phone ringing, unless I catch the faint noise of the Rolling Stones :P.
At a party, I usually wont hear my cell phone.
At a friends house, if were actively doing something, I wont hear my cell phone.
Yes there are those times, when its extremely quiet, and then... and only then, will my cell phone's ring tone seem "too loud"
I'm not trying to annoy anyone, or share my ringtone with the world, I just want to be able to hear my phone when its ringing.

Personaly, i know i don't ask myself "is this ring tone gonna bother somebody?" when i am picking a ring, and i don't think too many others do either. Poeple see it as a way to express themselves, and as for the volume of the ring, if it is not loud enough you are more likely to miss it. So you will find most people turn thier ringers to max.

It appears to be a chemical imbalance in their cerebral cortex. These same individuals can often be found to illicit other strange behaviours such as wearing enough perfume to safely cover ten average humans.

Simply, to be different. They think they attract attention. Like people who plays loud music from their car, thinking people will like the crap coming out of their window.

I'm sorry, young lady. I can't hear very well, and vibrate mode simply doesn't cut it wearing heavy clothing in winter. But that's just me.

Well who is to say that they do not like to hear your ringtones. It does not matter how loud or soft it is. They like it like that so deal with it. To them, it is not annoying. And everyone does it, so you honestly need to shut up and stop complaining.
