No other rock band has lastest as long and continued to release hit songs and continued to pack stadiums. They have been drawing packed crowds in every decade since the 1960s. Their music continues to be pure rock, and they have not deviated from that regardless of what the popular trends have been. And they still put on a terrific live show.

The Roling Stones are considered the greatest band because of the way they bursted into the music scene and the rock scene. How many albums they sold and the awesome way they sell out so fast anywhere they go. Alot of newer artist also sing their praises as being on of the biggest reasons they fell in love with rock and music.

probably longevity and maintaining a certain standard throughout
however,i don't think they have ever really been innovative, and certainly never pushed the boundaries of popular music, like say The Beatles did.
They certainly exuded a rebellious persona in the early mid 60's and have produced some of the greatest ever rock songs of all time, which is another reason why they are "the greatest band in the world" - but when was their last great song????
I think you've have to go back to the mid 70's for that...

i was really young when the stones came out, around the time the beatles came out...for a while it seemed lik they were competing with each other...before them there were no real bands like they were....they started a new music revolution back in the 60s with their look and music..my favorite song from them is "Satisfaction"..so having a different sound and look and lasting what? 40 years...ppl call them the best....not many artists today last for more than one song or a CD but these guys have longevity

the world's greatest band is who you want it to be, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Nobody has the same taste in music or anything else for that matter.

truth is, i don't even like the stones. people think that a band is good based on how old they are (rolling stones being the oldest active band). i base it on the quality of the music. i see that people need to listen to the music out there. rs arent even on my top 100 bands.
