I live in a student house with my 3 housemates. We've been here for about 5-6 months now and over the past couple of weeks, a blackish, circular-in-shape type mould has started to grow on the painted bathroom ceiling.

I have no doubt it's encouraged by all the steam from the shower, and I try to have showers with the windows open and extractors on, my question is two-fold however:

1) Is there anything that can be done to get rid of it on a long-term scale?

2) Could this problem be blamed on the landlord using the wrong type of paint? (Is there a wrong type of non-mould proof paint?)...because I would hate to see him keep our deposit by blaming the mould on us.

To really get rid of it, you need to find the source of the moisture and since it just started a couple weeks ago, the true source isn't from the shower. There may be a leak in the roof or something. You need to inform your landlord and have it taken care of, because mold can be very dangerous, even life threatening.

the mildew killer paints won't artwork until eventually you're looking after the condensation and a de-humidifier won't shop up with the bathe. you rather choose an exhaust / extractor fan. decrease than maximum codes for the scale of my expert prepare (33 years), a fan or a window has been required with the help of code in all restrooms. I certainly have by no potential considered a code everywhere that did no longer have this requirement. So, it potential: a million. you're no longer employing the window or fan. Open the window or start up the fan whilst the water starts off. shop the window open or enable the fan decide for yet another 15-20 minutes later on. 2. it rather is an unlawful "bootleg" bathing room. you may desire to install the fan with a minimal score of 450 cfm (cubic feet consistent with minute).

I to have the the same problem. I tried everything to get rid of it.
it could be the paint. I know that's my problem, I have flat paint on my ceiling but I also get it on my walls that have a semi-gloss on too. Although I totally can't get rid of it , even with bleach I did find something that will shock you.
Use Pledge GRAB-IT WET It stops the mold for a very long time. Probably it won't work as good on the ceiling and the mold might be deep but you can try it .
