An URL Question?

Please bear with me ..I am a neophyte concerning this..What is a URL and how do you paste it into the machine in the direction you want it to go? Lost at sea..sometimes its the simple things that get to this sailor.Not lazy..just not ..Thinking that way.

It stands for unique resource locator in other words it is an address of a web page
