will it be ok in their contract phone thats on same network.

tell them yes, if the contract was on orange then yes, it will 101% work...
and you can tell them to get it unlocked to any network, go down to their local market and they will unlock it (avg price £10) to any network

Sim cards are almost always compatible within the same network.

Yes they can, but tell them to buy their own Pay as you Go Sim for £15 and then they wont have your friends ringing what they think is your number.
