I'm referring to the engine, not the interior heat. I live in Chicago- it gets to single digits here, its 27 degrees right now (oo, heat wave)

The best you can do is get a block heater, put it on a timer so it comes on for about 3 hours before starting. Synthetic oil for the cold months is also good as it flows thinner and gets around to the top of engine quicker in the colder days. Let it idle for up to 5 minutes, no more and then drive off gently for the next mile or two, no heavy acceleration.

Warming up a car's engine is NOT necessary anymore, just start and go. Avoid high RPM's until the engine has reached operating temperature. Check your owners manual.

it is better if you can warm the engine before driving. Lubricants thicken in colder weather, therefore, warming the engine helps the lubricants (oil) do their job. Car engines are set up to run at certain temperatures, and fuel mileage goes down if the engine is cold.

It's always a good idea to run your engine 5 minutes or so before taking off, especially if it's cold out.

Think of oil in your engine as blood in your body if it doesn't warm up properly you will have problems, if not now you will have latter, but don't forget cooling down is as impotent if not more especially if you have a turbo.

yes
its easier on the cars engine if you let the oil and stuff get warmed up

its easier for the engine to circulate the iol and if the oil is warm its thinner so it will lubricate better
