It is said that the work of an evolutionary biologist will help promote human welfare or help people understand better their significance in the web of life. How is this so?

Medical science advances by studying the evolution of disease causing microbes etc.
Also Studying evolution allows us to conserve our natural heritage and give greater understanding of natural systems.

It would be of great help to all life if humans could be made to understand our place in the web of life. We are not so unique as we want to think we are. We are not on the top of some evolutionary ladder.

As it is, we are over-populating and destroying the earth and 1000s of other species.
