Going to all of these places in April. Please give me any ideas for what to do or see. 2 weeks in Joburg, 4 nights in Madikwe, 4 nights at Cape Town & 6 nights in Durban. We're all 23 years old.

(By the way I've been warned about the risks of travelling to South Africa, so please do not give me a lecture about how rough it is. You will not talk me out of this trip 100% guaranteed).

Thanks.

Joburg- Check out the Newtown area, fuel cafe ( Thurs, Fri or Sat Nights ) and loaded ( Friday ) or carfax ( one off events ).
Jolly Roger in Parkhurst is a great pub to get the party started.
Checkout jhblive.co.za and mrspencer.co.za for other nightlife listings resturants etc.
Cape Town- Check out Le med in Camps bay ( especially Sundays are good) if you cant decide where to go, head on down to long street there are loads of places there.
Don't know much about Madikwe or Durban though

ONLY FOUR NIGHTS IN CAPE TOWN?!!! Cape Town is THE coolest city, esp. for people your age. Definitely see what's on at Kirstenbosch (the open-air concert); if you're lucky it will be a top draw and I promise you it's one of the best concert venues in the world. Also, I would strongly, strongly suggest renting a car and having dinner at Moyo at Spier in Stellenbosch. OK, OK - so people are going to tell me it's a tourist trap, but I have been there with South Africans and they loved it. A unique experience and loads of fun.

While you're in Durban (do have a car), I would suggest spending a day or an overnight at Tala Game Reserve. It's a proper Big Four game reserve (no lions or elephants, but they are introducing cheetahs, and they do have the world's biggest rhino) and it's only about a 45 minute to one hour drive. You can do self-drive or guided drive, there is accommodation there for all budgets. An overnight there with two game drives was one of the highlights of my last trip to RSA. There are also some very good beach resorts north and south of Durban, especially if you are a diver you could go to Aliwal Shoals and see some sharks. World-class surfing up and down the KZN coast, too.

If you had longer in the Western Cape I would suggest you go down to Gansbaai and do the Great White cage dive and spend a couple of days in the Cederberg...oh, well.

PS: Never had a problem in South Africa of any kind and go every year. Maybe I'm just lucky. I always rent a car; driving there is easy and there is so much to see and do...

JHB - for the club and pub scene, I would recommend Fourways, Monte Casino, Sandton City (for shopping) and Mellville (Mellville is a bit seedy, the others are a bit up market). As for restaurants, try The Meat Company in Melrose Arch or Monte Casino (http://themeatco.com/southafrica/), or even better The Butcher Boys Grill (http://www.butcherboysgrill.co.za/) but its about a 30 min drive out to Midrand.

Cape Town - For the pubs, clubs and restaurants goto the V&A Waterfront, but also go on a wine tour in the Cape Winelands.

Durban - Haven't been there since I was a lad, what I can remember, the South Beach is nice and is very very humid, so plenty of swimming in the sea.

Madikwe - A nice Game Reserve north-west of JHB.

You'll love Durban, do you enjoy surfing? You could all do that in Durban, the weather is still permissive. Its been a very warm and long summer. Then you can go to Ushaka Marine world, then drive to Zululand. See where Shaka Zulu comes from and where his family still lives. Man, I can't write it all down, there's too much to do. Get the Lonely Planets or the rough guides books.

Enjoy SA!!!

Family and I drove around Durban area and had a great time. Try and visit Ushaka near Durban big acquarium. Also game reserves. In Cape Town you must go up 'Table Mountain. I loved Cape Town.
Have a fab. time (I know you will).

You can get all the info you want from books like the lonely planet or the rough guide.
I worked a few years as a tour leader in South Africa. And also traveled alone. It's a great and beautiful country.

You'll find great Cape Town things to do here:

I recommend paragliding off Lion's Head, what a blast. And make sure you visit Long Street in Cape Town - a great vibe. Loop Street (one up from Long St in the city centre) is home to great clubs and entertainment.

You'll love the Cape :o)

Enjoy!
