Nature studies, taking the class on study tours to the wilderness.
What about bird-watching trips, early in the morning? This would also make them healthier!

With our world the way it is today what about a current movie or a sit com, which focuses on conflict management?
You could use some of the dynamics of the characters and relate it to the students everyday life.
Students could then role play various situations, practicing the skills you've introduced.
They could play it bad, letting it fall into conflict and then do an instant replay, playing it good, negotiating the feelings and the conflict.
If you did that, you'd capture the kids' interest and you'd be making a difference in their lives and our world! Not bad.
