(True story) This DID happen to me a few years ago, hubby & I were at the farmers market, I'm disabled & in a wheel chair 1/2 the time, so while we were there, I was getting some veggies & this 12 year old girl screamed "Mom, that lady is fat"! I looked up the 12 year old was standing in front of her mother, while her mother was talking to a friend of hers, & her mother just patted her on the head & said Shhhh...... I really pissed me off that the mother couldn't repramand her, so hubby & I went over to her & told the mother she needs to teach her daughter more manners, she's old enough to know better, the lady just looked at us & continued to talk to her friend! So both the child & mother made me mad! I could see where the child got her manners from....the mother!

I would be upset with both of them. The child for not minding his manners and the parent for not teaching the child manners. Just because a person is overweight doesn't mean that it is okay to treat them badly. As a society that is overweight the thin people should watch out being that the overweight are getting bigger with bigger appetites, The skinny people are getting skinner. Don't the skinny's know that the fatties are sooner or later going to eat them? just kidding but it is harsh to have the obvious pointed out about someone that isn't a good feature. The parent is an @$$ for not teaching their child that it isn't okay to treat someone badly. Shame on mom or dad for not apologizing at the very least.

i would be mad at the parents for bringing up the child to be rude,to not apologize on the childs behalf.they are the ones responsible for this,as the child is small and doesnt know right from wrong.

Out of the mouths of babes! Parents don't bring up their kids to be rude, it pops out of even the best behaved children. Kids don't have discretion or diplomacy and will tell you what they are thinking with the greatest of honesty.
Parents should however, correct such lapses by pointing out their observation has hurt someone's feeling and ask them to apologize. On the other hand, this could backfire--child apologizing for calling someone fat. "Sorry for calling you fat! But Mom they are huge!"
Best to just move on and hope for the best. Besides, if you are overweight, you know it! It's not like you didn't know.
(I have learned to be brutally honest while living with children)

I agree with the kill them with kindness, but that might just go over a kids' head. I would be mad at the parents because kids don't know any better if they aren't told they are doing something wrong. They learn the differences between right and wrong from their parents. This particular child obviously isn't learning anything from his/her parents.

Children just dont understand that them pointing out the obvious can sometimes hurt the other person´s feelings. So its definitely the parent´s fault, kids just dont know any better.

the parent for sure there is no excuse for that ....i was recently in line at grocery with my mother and she couldnt find her wallet and held up the line the lady behind me with her 4 lil bratty kids sighed and rolled her eyes and one of the kids instantly followed suit i pulled out my check card and paid thank goodness and i said to my mother the only thing worse than losing your wallet is being made to feel a fool by rude impatient ignorant people teaching their kids to act the same ....my mom had no idea what i meant at the time but i said it loud enough for the lady to hear me and she did not look up from the floor til i left ...very out of character for me to say such a thing but it really steamed me ...yes kids do and say things you can not control but once u see it as a parent u need to make it right and to teach such behavior is inexcusable in the world we are living in now

I would be upset at the parent for not apologising and then diciplining the child for its rudeness.
But then I would also thank the child (in my head) for the wake up call and do something about my weight. No one tells it like it is more than a child.

I would be upset with all three. I'd get over it after having a burger or two though. I would also be upset that I could not see the child insulting me due to my belly being so huge.
