Just like pressing the buttons harder on the remote works when the batteries are dying.

I always find that swearing at wrenches, throwing things across the room, and pounding the crap out of an object always causes it to work better.
It's amazing. I feel like The Fonz in this regards.

No doubt about it. Works wonders on a CRT, too. Sometimes I will hit it with a brick and sometimes with a hammer.
Sometimes a well placed threat will work instead, though.

It's what I call "Lada mechanics". General rule: If it doesn't work, hit it. It actually works for my Lada when it won't start in the winter, just as it worked for my Mini Clubman 15 years ago!

I wouldnt hit my telly it cost too much but I do admit to kicking and hitting the sky box!!

Yep.....and I would have to second that about pressing the buttons harder on the remote when the batteries are going flat. Why do we think doing that is going to help?
