I recently gained an online store and was wondering if anyone knew of any tips on how to promote or advertise my store for free? I do not have enough money to invest and I am a stay at home mom so any information would be much appreciated. Thanks guys.

phone books and other directories offer free listings (without the frills).

Yahoo directory and the Open Directory are two of the biggest, but each industry has its own directory (depending on what you sell).

Then you can start a blog, send a press release to the local and industry press, have your children tell their friends about it, etc.

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines

While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!

Some of the new up-and-comers include:

Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine

Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine

Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine

ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine

Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews

It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

I'm not sure how much business it will get you but try selling some stuff on E-bay. I've bought a few things from E-bay and found out the seller also had a website.

Walk around a busy street carrying a sign with your website written on it.

you can start myspace and facebook pages for the sore and then search for groups related to whatever you are selling-join those groups and send a polite-less then spam like message to members of those groups asking them to please check out your store.
