i found that swimming with others was more enjoyable
when i was younger and learning to swim, i had one on one lessons with the teacher, until i could swim confidently by myself with a small group of children my age.
As i progressed, i was moved into a larger group of children. The instructor taught us how to swim using the four strokes (i.e freestyle, backtroke, butterfly, breastroke) correcting our technique. We also learnt other things such how to do a tumble turn, how to dive properly etc.
it is important to find a qualified swim school for children, with qualified teachers. If their is a swim school near you, you could go and check it out during lesson times and see how the teachers are and what facilities they have.
most aquatic centres and local pools will offer classes or sqaud training for beginners or those who already know how to swim and are wanting to improve.
remember, swimming isn't just for olympians or athletes.
swimming is a wonderful way to improve fitnes, to make new friends and to have fun!
After all these years, I am still swimming and I love it!

I took lessons, kinda helped as a kid, I prefered to jump in the deep end of the pool, and get the life guard's going crazy. I learned my own way to swim, I am very good at it, and a very strong swimmer. I own a boat, there is only ONE RULE on my boat, You can drink, party, have a great time (I don't drink, I'm the captain, and I'm responsible for everyone's safety), you can do ANYTHING you want but, You MUST wear the "P.F.D." (personal Floatation Device) or "Life Vest", they come in about 8000 styles and colors now (I have them all on board), some don't even look like a "Life Vest", they look like a coat, or fishing vest, so there is NO reason not to wear one ! so pick one out, wear it, have fun, or you can watch us have fun from shore !

Actually it gets them more inspired to learn knowing that nobody will be around to pull them out of the water if they drown...
