Both terms are used interchangeably in the Linux/unix world.

Unix (1970's), and Linux (1990's) are designed from the ground up with full built-in protection from viruses, worms and trojans. They are much more secure than Windows by design.

Try the Kubuntu or Freespire Live CDs without having to install them on your PC.
