Yes, the major macrolevel theories all believe in progress (think conflict, functionalism, interactionism). Sociology believes that society is always evolving, that is why we retest theories and empirical research to see if the findings still hold true 5,10,15 years down the line.

I think when we entered an information era,a society whose knowledge is shared by one and all,we became susceptible to the radical sect that would destroy mankind if it could.
It is a hazard that would probably befall any technological society early in it's history
