u can try taking it apart and cleaning it out with a cotton bud, but your best bet is to get an infra red mouse. it has a sensor that detects movement, rather than a ball. because it doesn't have any parts underneath that can get clogged up with crumbs / dirt , etc, it doesn't stick.

There most likely is dust or dirt under your mouse where you are using it, though you can not prevent all dust.

First clean the mouse, all the contact points to ball with some alchol and a q-tip/cotton swab.
Now check to see where you are using your mouse and make sure that the surface is clean if it isn't just clean it off.
Not sure what you mean by "sticking" but this is probably from some kind of food or drink you have while using the mouse.
Try to avoid eat or drinking when you use the computer (Yes i understand it's hard to as i do it most of the time, and must empty out keyboard of crumbs =). )
If you are careful you try to put some wax or a little oil where the ball rolls, but don't apply to and buttons or electronics.
Best thing to do is to buy an optical mouse. this should fix problems of sticking easily since nothing can get inside make the mouse stick.

Hopefully, you're using an optical mouse and not the old ball type. The ball type pick up all sorts of garbage from the mouse pad. If it's an optical and you mean it is physically sticking when you move it, that again has to do with picking up dirt on the little glide pads. Need to keep the surface clean. Anything on your hands will eventually get transferred to the mouse pad.

If it's not physical and if using a USB mouse, try using an adapter and plug into the PS2 port.

Always wash you hands after drinking fizzy drinks or food.

Perhaps it is the humidity or damp that is causing your mouse to stick.

Buy a wireless mouse and keyboard never any problems and so more flexible to use. And the prices has come right down on these peripherals.

Apart from stopping doing whatever you're up to that makes it sticky, I'd suggest you get an optical mouse; you won't have sticky ball problems then.

it could be the surface you are using the mouse on. try using a mousemat if you havent got one or if you do have a mousemat, try it without one. also dont eat near the mouse, and it may also be that you have not plugged it in properly.

if its an optical mouse make sure the surface it is on is not white or reflective, preferably,a dark matt finnish.
