I agree that Man Utd were lucky against Liverpool because Van Der Sar did save some really good balls.

However, I do believe that O'Shea's goal was NOT a lucky one because Ronaldo executed the free-kick perfectly and United definitely deserved the free kick. The goal was not scored because of any freak accident or whatever lucky circumstances. It was brilliantly planned by Giggs and Ronaldo. Blame your own Liverpool players for giving away the free-kick and not being able to score even after 11 shots.

I also thought that Liverpool were lucky when Louis Saha was brought down and no penalty was awarded and also Alonso was lucky enough for not really getting a punch from Scholes for tugging his jersey.

So what do you think?

Pharoah- I agree with you. I credit Liverpool for their play. But, Man Utd's goal was something that did not came from just pure luck. I think people should see that.

We were outplayed by liverpool throughout the game i'll admit but it is as one commentator said "the hallmark of champions" that we were able to win that game. Scoring goals is 20% creating chances and 80% CONVERSION OF THOSE CHANCES - liverpool had more than enough chances to kill off that game maybe even as early as the first half and they wasted them (a couple of times thanks to van der sar mind u)

But it definitely wasn't a lucky goal. Our chances were rare but we took the best one we got and capitalized on it - and we WERE SUPPOSED TO GET THE PENALTY when saha had his foot swept out.
Then they pulled back giggs (mistake #1) and then they see ronaldo and giggs standing over a ball in that kind of position and put up a TWO-MAN!!! wall....HAHA (mistake #2) - u just cause trouble on yourself when you do that against the best team in the world....

If Liverpool had taken the advantage that was offered them on a plate,it could have been a different score, BUT, they did not. As for the Goal, I think that John O`Shea did very well to score it. Was it lucky? well any Goal is Lucky Is`nt it. I must agree that Edwin Van Der Sar played a absolute blinder for us.

luck!!!!!!!!! if Manchester United was lucky why didn't giggs and Ronaldo play a one two with one of the players going into the corner and waste time as United ONLY had 10 men and a draw would have been good for us. But no, United went for the win, no luck, pure skill, ( a defender in the box in extra time trying to score ) go on O'SHEA but more so GO ON MANCHESTER UNITED 7 more wins (could be less as Chelsea go to Arsenal )... sign of champions

Not a lucky goal, but against the run of play, based on the rest of the game Liverpool should have won.....but as we all know its the ball in the back of the net that counts. O'Shea was in the perfect position....no defender in sight.....looked to easy!

Its not a lucky goal for sure.

ManU kept going even after reducing to 10 men. Liverpool took it a bit easy after Scholes got sent off.

Anywayz Liverpool keepers always make mistakes when they play vs ManU (Reina last week, Dudek last season, Dudek again against Forlan 2 yrs ago)

I agree Liverpool played better football than ManU but could not capitalize on it but ManU had few chances and took it like they will have no ohter chance.

Also that Liverpool started to play a bit defensively after ManU were 10 man.

i dont tink it is a lucky goal. they deserve the win. although liverpool had better chances than man utd, they just cant pass through man utd's defence n marvelous goalkeeper. as a man utd fan, i must admit though than man utd didnt conquer the game. but, the injury time changed everything.

The game is all about converting the chances that you have, and creating your own luck, at the end of the day its 3 points in the bag

they were veryyyy lucky!! van der sar saved their butts!!!
scholes is a jerk and whether he punched Alonso or not deserved to be red carded!!! so what if Saha really was fouled!! ManU have gotten PK's this season without being fouled thanks to their cheating Ronaldo!!! so it helps to even things a very little bit!!
