No You have to have a Passport

Even in the UK one of my Friends on Certain Airlines had to use her passport to travel to Scotland from England

And Southern Ireland is not part of the UK so you will definitely have to use a Passport to go there

If you are travelling to another country irrespective of it being a member of the EU you will have to use your passport and not Driving Licence

No, 'fraid not. The driving licence won't serve as proof of identity for any official purpose in an EU country either. The UK Passport office says: Although the United Kingdom is part of the European Union (EU), you still need to carry a full British 10-year passport (or five-year child passport if you are under 16 and not on a parent’s passport) every time you travel to Europe. This includes day trips and travel by Eurostar.

Many countries no longer check passports at their land borders, but they still expect visitors to be able to produce a valid form of identification. For UK travellers this is the British passport. Remember, your passport will have to be checked at immigration control when you return to the UK."

When you leave the borders of the UK you have to have a Passport even if you are travelling within the EU. To go to Northern Ireland you don't need a passport.
