It is quite common to expect earthquakes in that part of world. Because it falls on the seismically very active zone and e quakes are highly probable.
SanAndreas fault line and associated fractures of the great "Ring of fire" encompassing the Pacific plate edges out along the coast of California and so it is not a surprise if a catstrophic Quake occur.
The comming of a big one should never be guessed but should be expected and be adequetly be prepared to both react at the instance and also be prepared to meet the aftermatn consequeces.

Statistically, the big one is overdue. The plates are setting up for a big release, so say the geologists. The longer the delay, the bigger the release of energy.

I have a historical geology book that was written in the early 80s. It has a whole chapter on the geology of New Orleans, and the author wrote that NO is a flood disaster waiting to happen. The author also has a chapter on the San Andreas fault, and he wrote that it's gonna go with a big bang soon too.

It's possible; nobody really knows. But the good thing is that many small earthquakes often reduces the pressures so that the "Big One" doesn't hit. That's the problem, you see. Sometimes the big one hits after smaller shocks, and sometimes the smaller shocks dissipate the stresses. Only time will tell.

If you live in Sunny California you should always be ready for a major quake. Small tremors release energy and are a good thing. Major quakes usually come after the plate pressures have accumulated more energy.
