Among the first to offer Diesel engines in a passenger car.
Crumple zones devised about 1950
(Lap-sash seat belts were by Volvo in about 1959)
Among the first to use fuel injection in petrol/gasoline road cars.
MB were among the first to use disk brakes in the mid 50s
MB also were among the first to offer ABS as standard on some models, from 1979/80 if not slightly before.

January, 1986...Germany...
in a few days a guy by the name of Karl Benz will patent the automobile, at which time his wife promptly arranges the first 'road-trip'(about 65 miles away)
Karl wakes up one morning...dude(in German)...ver iz mine autombile?
But seriously, the concept from the get-go of this company was and still is to be the most advanced cars on the planet. Want to see what will be standard fare on cars 10-15 years from now?...look at the S-class today...

Crumple zones,even though Benz has the patent on them they let every other car company use it. Seat belts, air bags ect.
