I need it to leave my laptop with just SONY VAIO AND WINDOWS XP PRO. Just as it was when new. But i need to be able to sort and re program files into it from the disc. As there are files that were bined that i now need to recover

try winundelete, you'll have to do a search for it cus i'm not sure of the url but is a great piece of software. i've managed to recover stuff that i desperately needed and lost. there's a free 30 day trial to download and it will recover stuff from months and months ago!

file recovery software like ntsc disc recovery will do it, problem is if it is a partition that you use only a small fraction of the files wil be recoverable

PCI file recovery software, its free n easy 2 use. u can look 4 it in google.
