I have got my cycle pretty much down and my husband I are trying to get pregnant. I was hoping that you can still get pregnant on your first day of ovulation. He is about 8 years older then I am so he is not always in the mood. We pretty much have sex on his schedule and some days I'm just to tired.

There is no "first day of ovulation" as such. Ovulation is a process that takes just a few seconds, and then the released egg "lives" for about 12-24 hours.

You have a better chance of conceiving if you have intercourse on every second day from about day 8 of your cycle.

Having sex every second day will assist in preserving the quality and quantity of the sperm released in each ejaculation. Having sex just prior to ovulation will also help because healthy sperm live for, on average, about 3 days, so the sperm will be there ready and waiting to fertilise your egg as soon as it is released.

If you are waiting until you are actually ovulating to have intercourse you might be missing the best opportunity to conceive, since your egg may well be past it's use by time before the sperm even reach it. Conception really is down to a matter of just hours. The window of opportunity to fertilise an egg is quite narrow.

If you need more advice on preparing yourself for conception and maximising your chances you may want to make an appointment with a fertility specialist, or I am sure your family doctor could also help.

Best of luck.

Yes. You can really get pregnant at anytime however each month you have a 20-25% chance of becoming pregnant and that is even when you do have sex on your ovulation day.
