Bangalore is a truly cosmopolitan city. Having spent most of my life in Bangalore and having seen Hyderabad I would like to give my thoughts.
If you are travelling by air: The airport is busier than Hyderabad. Do watch out for people asking for money, help with luggage etc. There are plenty of cabs available. depending upon where you stay the commute would be anywhere between 20-50 mins. Traffic is probably more than at Hyderabad with long commutes. The airport road is pretty good but busy. Indiranagar and Jeevanbhimanagar are close to the airport. There is a big Shiva temple nearby.

I agree with some of the other answers. There is plenty to choose from.

For sightseeing: Vidhana Soudha, lalbagh, fort etc.
For shopping: MG road, Brigade road, Subhashnagar, Shivajinagar etc.
For relaxation: Nandi hills, few resorts etc.
For food: many darshinis ( fast food). I liked VVpuram bakery items. Damrot is the main attraction there. I also liked mysore pak at Gandhinagar (near Majestic theatre).
For kids: Museum, planetarium
For temples: Plenty. Fort Balaji, Kannyakaparameshwari at VVpuram.
For nearby attractions: Mysore

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
