It really depends on your taste. If you like pop-rock, then Rent is the best for you. If you're a kid, then Beauty and the Beast or Lion King.
For me, the best (and my favorites) are Wicked because it's a family show, great music and the set and costumes are breathtaking; Rent, because of the music; Les Miz and Miss Saigon, because of the music and the set is amazing, i really love that helicopter. :) Annie and The Sound Of Music, I loved these musicals since I was a kid. THe first songs I learned were Tomorrow and Do-Re-Mi when I was 2 or 3 years old. Song & Dance, because it's very unique. Loved the songs in West Side Story.

Phantom of the Opera, because the characters make you feel what they are feeling. i know it sounds lammmeeee, but the main character [christine & phantom] make you feel sad, happy, scared, etc. when you actually hear them. [their voices help tell you what emotion they are going through] however, anyone could like whatever they want...don't u agree?

I hear Cats has closed. I don't know all that's running, haven't been to NY for many years. You could google it and find out easily.
