To use google earth - just download and install. You will then be able to see a satellite picture of any part of the world.
Some cities are mapped in great detail. So for example you can see most parts of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad etc in such clarity that you can see your own home or office!
Many people are adding some markings to the maps so in the future you will be able to search for restaurants and shops using google earth.
For some cities in the US - you can see a 3D rendering of the city also.
