I just had one of my Honda Accords transported here to NY and I didn't use it until tonight. I noticed that when the car stops completely, the speedometer reads 10mph. The only time it'll go back to 0 is when I turn the car off. Besides that, just turning it back on will cause it to jump back to 10mph.
What would cause this?? Is it easy, quick, and cheap to repair?

Hi there !

That is a very common problem to Honda Accords.

I have seen what you are describing many , many times.
The speedometer will work erratic or not at all while the odometer keeps on going or both will not work.

The speedometer is run electrically.(i do not mean digital!)

The main Integrated Chip on the speedometers circuit board has gone bad. This causes erratic or no operation of the speedometer/odometer.There is no way to repair the problem. You must get a new or used speedometer.

My local pick n pull junkyard will sell me a speedometer for $20.00 for that vehicle in San Jose California.(the dealership wants $180.00 brand new.)

If i set the mileage on the used speedometer and removed and installed on your vehicle ; i would charge you $120.00 for that vehicle. it would take me about 90 minutes to do the job.

I hope that helps. Good Luck!

try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 to 15 seconds. this may reset the sensor or whatever is causing the issue. you will have to reset the clock and radio presets if you do this.

Your speedo is electric, so it's getting a false signal, most likely the sensor on the tranny.
