you will probably get a temporary number emailed to you, and then you can use it from the date of purchase.

Your Basic membership starts immediately, and the additional Plus benefits take effect five (5) days after processing your application.

one you do it online you get instant roadside assistance. when my car was in a ditch i applyed online and the next day got it towed out for free!
