The mission plan of Apollo 11 was to land two men on the lunar surface and return them safely to Earth. The launch took place at Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A on July 16, 1969, at 08:32 a.m. EST. The spacecraft carried a crew of three: Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. The mission evaluation concluded that all mission tasks were completed satisfactorily.

Neil Armstrong would be the first one to step on the moon's surface becuase he is the Mission commander. and maybe Edwin was still preparing for the module.

Buzz Aldrin. And it was Michael Collins who remained in the main capsule while Neil and Buzz walked on the moon. I believe that Neil was the senior officer so he got to go first.

I saw an interview with Buzz Aldrin and he said it was because the way the capsule was designed was that Armstrong was seated nearest the door and got to go first.
