Anyone that lives in India, in Asia, is an Indian.
Native Americans are also stereotypically referred to as "Indians" due to Columbus thinking he was in the West Indies.

Indian has 2 uses..
1st - if ur born in India / if ur an indian by origin
2nd- indian is also used for aboriginal people... indian may have come from indigenous ( meaning original inhabitants..) eg. it was used for the native americans and people living originally in north america and the west indies
