I dread going to the video rental place now because the guy who works there is an ex-marine who is always trying to get me to watch all of this war propaganda stuff... or stuff with a "christian perspective"....

I rent movies to be inspired or entertained - not be preached at...

Anybody else have this problem?

You could always ask for some anti-war and/or anti-Christian documentary. Or you could take a tactful approach and just say something like "I appreciate your recommendations, but your tastes don't really reflect my own". If all else fails you could head to a different video store.

It's one thing for a video store clerk to be very knowledgeable about movies and willing to offer a suggestion based on something you have watched or something you are checking out. It's quite another for them to push their personal agenda - in fact, I would say it's wrong for anyone to do this when representing their company.

So rent "Hair" and the "Omen" and he will never mess with you again.

Personally, nobody would dare talk to me about my selections. They see me and know I've been there before so I know everything they have better than they do.

If he still gives you trouble after those movies ask hi if he has "Saving Ryans Privates" and "The Devil in Miss Jones". He will either back off or ask you out for a drink.

Try this next time you go to the video store. When he suggests movies to you, tell him you only have enought money to rent movies your interested in, but if he rents the movie for you, then you'll watch it. He will get the message.

I have completely the opposite problem - my video guy won't let me rent stuff 'coz he doesn't like it. I was going to hire '7 Years in Tibet' (or whatever that Brad Pitt one's called) and he looked at it and said "no... that's really bad, i'll put it back for you" and walked away! It's happened a few times. But atleast he's not shoving Christian stuff on me lol :-)

Nah, most of the video store people up here tend to leave you alone unless you ask for a recommendation. It'd be one thing if you asked him what was good, but trying to shove any values down your throat is annoying.

Then go to another video rental place... or you could always tell him that you watch a movie to relax...
