Yes, vinegar is one of the best ways to absorb smells, especially from smoke. Fill small bowls and put them around the room, or house, for a day or so. Any vinegar is ok, and apple cider vinegar even leaves a bit of a pleasant scent.
You can also sprinkle baking soda, and even add cinnamon to it, on your upholstery and carpet. It will absorb odors and you can vacuum it up afterwards.
A cold mist diffuser is excellent with essential oils, such as lavender or any citrus or eucalyptus.
An apple or onion cut up and left overnight or day will also absorb smells.
But what about you? What about your lungs and heart and skin? If you want to make a change there, you are welcome to check out: http://www.quitguide.com

Vinegar plain or cider works wonders on Cigarette smoke, place a dish of non diluted Vinegar in your room and all around the house over night and in the morning it will smell fresh again, just be sure to air it out as vinegar tends to have fumes for a few minutes but then dissipates, your home will smell as if no one ever smoked in it before, Hint: Vinegar is also wonderful for cleaning will clean and disinfect and is very cheap. Good Luck !

I am very sensitive to the smell of smoke and anytime someone smokes in my house I burn candles. Just any will do. Your curtains and carpet may still smell. If you are taking your curtains you can take that problem with you. For curtains you don't take and carpet try fabreeze spray or a carpet fresh with baking soda. Good luck.

First, open all the windows/doors, and switch-on all the fans - to allow fresh air to circulate throughout the room. That itself, will rid the room of most of the smell.
Next, turn off the fans, light an aromatic candle and allow it to burn for at least 15 minutes : It will completely eradicate any remaining traces of the cigarettes' smoke from the room.

What my sister did: SprayFebreze (buy large refill size and a spray bottle) and lay fabric softener sheets all around. Place a bowl or two of vinegar in the room.. Wash all curtains,or puit them in plastic bags with fabric softener sheets. Put baking soda and febreze on the carpets and softener sheets under them. Also, wipe mirrors and windows clean of telltale nicotine residue, wash walls . Start now, and slap a nicotine patch on yourself so you dont feel like smoking in the meantime. Maybe you'll get a 'fresh start' in more ways than one! It worked for my sis! Best of luck!

Repaint and clean the carpet. Remove your items ASAP because the smoke smell is on them as well. And for last minute efforts vanilla candles will absorb a little bit of the smell.

Well I like a lot of these ideas, especially the vinegar one. I would open windows for the day and close the door to the rest of the house. more than one window if possible to get a cross breeze and wash everything and anything, walls, curtains, carpets etc..if you dont or cant wash carpets..fabreese them, use candles and the vinegar. wash linens in washing machine, wipe down every surface with vinegar or some kind of vinegar based solution..good luck.

wash the walls down. clean the carpet and try painting the walls. you should of had good candles burning while you smoked. if you stop smoking now and keep incense or candles burning you might be able to pull it off.
