As a start you could free up some space by deleting any music files or video files that you no longer want (presuming you have these).

You might find such files in start > my documents > my music (or my videos, or my pictures). Take a look at each one and decide if you want it or not. If not.. right click on each, and select "delete"

Then click the recycle bin icon (should be on the desktop) and click this on the toolbar: file > empty recycle bin

This should free up more space and there are other options that others may tell you about.

Go to Control Panel.Click System.Click on System Restore from
panel.Click settings and move the pointer to 4-5%.Or you can click off System Restore.Usually doesn't work any way. Also a free good
download to easily use.Windows Advanced Care Personal. That will
free your memory for you.HP and Compaq PCs-Increasing System
Resources will tell you more.Again it is easy to follow.Remember
to Bookmark any useful sights that you may think will be useful later.Put HP and Sys etc, into search.

If the computer is working ok you can find system restore (normally in start-all programs-accessories-system tools/system restore) and deactivate it. this will remove all the stored restore points, then reactivate it to make a current restore point. That will keep you going. You really need to take something off the computer to make a bit more space

-If you have a cd writer then copy all files from My Documents folder to cd/s and then delete them from the computer. It will make some space on the computer.
-If the hard disk has more than one partitions, C, D, E etc. Then try to copy the files from My Documents to D , or E drive, then delete them form My Documents folder.
