America is obsessed with sex. If you turn on the TV, at this very moment, i' m sure that you'll see a half naked chick promoting some new kind of soap, or alcohol, or whatever. That is what gets people's attention and that is why it is used in promotion of products. When I turn on the TV for my five year old, I turn it straight to the cartoon channel, because honestly that is the only channel that it is safe for him to watch, in today's society. Society must change the way that they view things.
And in regards to "it feels good": Do you really have to become obsessed with something just because it feels good?

Personally, I think us Americans are neutral when it comes to sex. My opinion is that some Americans are uptight about it. Some don't want to think about sex because one might think that their permiscuous, whorish, sinful, and etc. Some parents rather not have their children to take sex ed because some teens will somehow engage in sexual activity and the out come of that might be: one will become a teen parent or one will have a sexual transmitted disease. I personally think that sex ed should teach a lil' more information about sex because most teens will listen to their friends than their parent and 50-75% of the info they hear from their friends are wrong. Other than that, I don't see nothing wrong about showing your sexual side, as long as you are mature about it. If people want to run around and be naked, then go ahead... whatever makes you happy. Its not like we were born with clothes on, and if it wasn't for sex, we wouldn't be here...

Well, are you talking about advertising or just people's behavior?

Yeah, advertising relies on sex (appeal) and has for a long time. No surprise there. But it's not just in America.
Watch some European television ads.

Otherwise, your question is totally subjective, and it depends upon the sexual appetite of the individual.

Me, I like sex. So does my wife.

I see no problem with it. It's not like we're doing it 24-7.

We do have a life with other obligations and activities.

I just don't see why anyone would be surprised that sex is popular or that it's used in advertising.

It's just that it's every single place we go. It sells us everything. It's hard to get away from the force that says to be young and sexy is the only thing in life that matters. Have you noticed that even young children feel the need to be sexy - even when they really don't know quite what it means yet? They know what sexy looks like and how sexy acts - scary!

What do women and men think about as they get older - not the wisdom that age brings or compassion for others, or even ways to make the world a better place - no they worry about how long they will remain sexy and viable!

I have traveled to many countries and found America NO more obsessed with sex than any other country.

I have found that they are more private and modest about it and even a bit uptight by the blocking of nudity on the tv. CRAZY ! Perhaps you are hanging around the wrong Americans. There are many Americans so I am sure you haven't met the majority.

Happy Monday !!

Have you seen all the posts on YA that begin with "SEX.SEX.SEX"?
Sex sells, plain and simple. Even in the first part of the past century, salesmen were using sex to titillate and invite customers' attention.
It doesn't hurt when sex can be mandated as taboo, as it is in our society. We teach abstinence education in the public schools while airing soft porn on MTV, Playboy channel, etc.
The US is really screwed up when it comes to having healthy attitudes about sex.So is Mexico.
Good luck.

Yes, God is about sex ... and if you look at sex from God's view (Christianity), you'll see why we're where we are (world). Here's a bit from the book, "Good News about Sex and Marriage", by Christopher West:

"13. Why is the Church Obsessed with Sex? (Pgs 41- 43)

Questions like this usually refer to the Church’s keen interest in upholding sexual morality. To be sure, the Church does feel an urgent need to uphold the truth about sex. Why? For all the reasons we’ve noted about how important the issue of sex really is.

Sexuality is not just something biological but concerns the “innermost being of the human person. “ To the extent that our understanding of sexuality is skewed, so is our understanding of ourselves. Think how intertwined sex is with the mystery of life. Without sex there would be no life.

The deepest truth about sexuality actually reveals the deepest truth about life. It’s this: we are called through the gift of God’s grace to share in God’s life by loving as he loves - and this call is stamped into our very bodies as male and female; it’s stamped into our sexuality. Paraphrasing John Paul II: rediscovery of the nuptial meaning of the body always means rediscovery of the meaning of the whole of existence, the meaning of life. That’s why it’s such an urgent matter.

The sexual urge taps into the most powerful drives and desires of the human heart. Depending on how they’re directed, these drives and desires have the power for great good or great evil. In short, as created by God, the sexual urge was given to us as a “love instinct” that leads to life. But when it’s cut off from the source of love and life (God), it tends to become a “lust instinct” that leads to death.
Sexual attitudes and behaviors then have the power to orient not only individuals but entire nations and societies toward respect for life - or toward its utter disregard. To be sure, when lust is woven into the fabric of a society, that society can be nothing but a “culture of death.”

Sounds exaggerated? Our nation alone murders over four thousand preborn babies every day
In order to satisfy its lusts. And that’s only the beginning.

Disordered sexuality is the “Pandora’s Box” that unleashes a host of societal evils: from the poverty of “fatherless” families and the staggering proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases (some fatal, such as AIDS), to newborns found in dumpsters and increased violence among teens - all these can be traced to the breakdown of the sexual mores that hold the family intact as the fundamental cell of society. As sexual attitudes and and behaviors go, so goes marriage. As marriage goes, so goes the family. As the family goes, so goes society. Paraphrasing John Paul II: human life, its dignity and its balance, depends at every moment of history and at every point on the globe on the proper ordering of love between the sexes.

We will never build a civilization of love and culture of life unless we first live according to the truth of our sexuality. If the Church is “obsessed” with sex, it’s because she’s “obsessed” with upholding the dignity and balance of human life and the plan of God for humanity that our sexuality is meant to reveal.

America ISN'T obsessed with sex, you as a person are obsessed or thinking about it so you notice more when you see it, which makes it seem like you see it a lot more than other people do. like people who like cars notice when a 67 impala drives by and almost rip their heads off, but someone who doesn't like cars wont even notice it. (i know, not a very good example) but you get my point.
