Serious(ish) question.

I can't see the average British house lasting as long as the pyramids... (5000 years +) or maybe they can last that long or longer... I don't know.

Won't all the masses of 1950s+ homes need to be demolished and need to be rebuilt cause of eventual structural weaknesses developing in brickwork/material over a prolonged period of time.

Apparently the average new build house has a life of only 50-75 years.Friends who are builders and architects have all agreed that if you buy a modern home you should get one that is timber framed. My cottage is 450 years old and is timber framed and it has many more years left in it's beautiful little soul! ♥

Depends if a developer wants to build on your plot, if they can fit 3 house's on your land, they will do, but don't expect to get more for your house just because its up for redevelopment, they will only pay the going rate + a few %. But in answer to your question, anything from 50yrs for a basic prefab up to 1000 yrs. If you've a house that was built in the 50s/60s they should be good enough to see you out, anything built in the last 10yrs well make sure you do your research before committing yourself, get a good survey done and see if its been built on a flood plain, old mine shafts and what type of ground you have. Many new house's are being built on suspect site's these days.

Our house is a hundred years old and still has plenty of life in it, it's not like the rubbish they throw up these days now in a week.
