I can't blame them for spending money on Lilly, but, Jason Marquis stinks! That dude is like extended batting practice.

As a life long Cubs fan i really like the Ted Lilly move, he is a good solid #3 or lower pitcher. He is better then Gil Meche who i belive got a bigger contract with the Royals. As far as the Jason Marquis move, i dont like it. To much money on a guy that has a 6 era. That was a dumb move... Either way, the Cubs are winning the central this year.... Cubs vs. Yankees World Series...... See you in October!

Absolutely not. Besides the fact that Lilly (a perennial lock for under 200 innings) and Marquis are hardly average starters, by spending so much money on these two the Cubs gave homegrown starter Carlos Zambrano a ton of leverage going into arbitration. Also, next season's crop of starters looks to be significantly better than this years...unless the Cubs front office feels they can honestly compete in '07, they would have been wise to temper their bids in the ridiculous market this past offseason.

No . Ted Lilly is over the hill . He wont even win 10 games this season. the cubs have to be a little more concious of thier money.

I'd have to say no. those guys are worth that kind of money. Marquis is too inconsistant. And, when it's bad, it's really bad. Lilly isn't what he was a couple of years ago. And, even that wasn't overly good.

It was definitely a mistake.
