I don't think there are any direct buses going from JB to CH. Take one to KL and switch there or take one to Ipoh and switch there. The Ipoh-Tanah Rata bus goes up 3-4 times a day via the new route which is less winding and faster that the old route via Tapah (which the KL-Tanah Rata bus will use).

Also the Ipoh-Tanah Rata bus will pass Brinchang which has more hotels and places to see (although it is only about 10 minutes drive from Tanah Rata). If you use the KL-Tapah-Tanah Rata route, you will have to get another bus or take a taxi to your hotel if it is in Brinchang.

I suggest you stay at Rosa Pasadena Hotel, Country Lodge or Rainbow Hotel which are right in the middle of Brinchang, and have clean decent rooms at reasonable prices.

i dont think so the is a bus from johore bahru. but from kl there is.
it is un convenient to travel on public transport to cameron highland because one place to another is far apart and some of the place cannot excess buy public transport.
my advice if you go by bus there to "tanah rata" get a local tour to bring you around. tea farm, strawberry farm and vegetable farm is a must to visit there
