emo originated in the mid 80's when dc hardcore punk bands such as the faith, rites of spring, and fugazi began slowing their music down and adding melody. people called this emotional hardcore or emo for short. however, stuff like that was actually good music and the stuff "emo" bands are putting out today is completely unrelated. i agree, whoever came up with modern "emo" should be shot.

"EMO" is emotion punk ie. PANIC! at the disco, so just find the early band or solo singler with the same or similar singing techniques, but id blame televison and radio.
