I'm really glad you asked this question. I hear alot of people dogging Tyrus Thomas saying he's a bust, no talent, etc. etc.
Ok first let me answer his critics. Even if the guy were a bust and never develops even one more talent or skill than he possesses now. Even in that worst case scenario, aren't you pretty much looking at Darius Miles? Darius Miles is a tall athletic guy who can run the break and play defense, and Darius Miles is still in the league (7 year veteran). So to say Tyrus Thomas is a bust is ABSOLUTE STUPIDITY! You might as well say Steve Nash sucks, because both comments are on the same level of IGNORANT.
Now about his ability. I remember watching the elite 8 last year when LSU took on Texas. That Texas team had Daniel Gibson, LaMarcus Aldridge, and P.J. Tucker (all 3 now NBA players). All the hype before the game was Glen "Big Baby" Davis, but Tyrus Thomas is the one who showed up in that game. Texas should of won that game, but Tyrus Thomas wouldn't allow it. The guy was grabbing rebound after rebound, blocking shots, getting put backs, he was EVERYWHERE! I had never seen him play before. And I'll tell you not in the last 10 years have I seen a guy play and just in 20 minutes of watching know he's destined for greatness.
Secondly, this season I have no idea what the Bulls are doing. I think they're hell bent on doing the worst thing they can do. In the NBA it pays to either be really good or really bad, middle of the pack is no good. Either they pull the trigger on the Gasol deal and make a play at the Eastern Conference finals or they get Thomas and Sefolosha some playing time and develop their future. I think Paxson and Skiles are morons. I'm going to laugh my *** off when they get bounced out of the 2nd round of the playoffs (in the weak Eastern conference) and I look back and see Thomas averaged 10 min a game this year and Sefolosha 8 min!!!!

Tyrus Thomas is extremely raw right now. He has the athleticism to be a great player, especially on defense or fast break. What he needs to work on most is his mental things. He needs more post moves, and he needs to be more careful. He can't stay in games right now because he racks up way too many fouls. He'll be as good as he decides to be.

I think he is going to be one of the better athletes of the NBA. He is really fast for his size, he's got an amazing jumping ability, and has impeccable defense skills. The guy blocks shots all the time. The downside is his post up game and he needs more string, but this will all come in due time.

he appears to be one of those players that is athletically gifted....maybe the skills will come later....much like Iguodola of the sixers. he came in as an athletic wing man and now with iverson gone he has the opportunity to show just how good he is....with his athleticism hes in good shape to be a decent player
