i try to read some dvds on my comp. 90% will work but every once and a while i'll come accross one that freezes up my comp untill i eject the dvd.
some cases it will be a 4 dvd set and 3 will work but i'd get the problem with the 4th one.

why does this happen? how can i fix it? do i need a new drive?

1) run awc personal free edition

2) Use a cd/dvd cleaning disk and run it in the cd/dvd drive, that will clean the cd/dvd lense. Also see if your cd/dvds have accumulated anything on the surface. If you have any doubt then wash them in soap water. Do not scrub. Use a soft cloth to wash them. Let them dry and then use them.

If the 4th/ or 3rd DVD freezes up on your pc, but it works fine on another one--that get rid of your dvd-drive.
But try uninstalling the driver then restart the pc.

look on the flip side of the DVD
are there scratches? fingerprints?

I suspect the problem is with the DVD and not the player
unless you try one of the first ones you played - and it won't this time
