This all depends on what you are feeding him now. Are you breastfeeding? Are you giving him solids?? If you are breastfeeding then you could try increasing the number of times you feed him. I fell into this same situation with my youngest. I fell into a pattern of when I would feed her...she actually began losing weight. So I had to start supplementing formula. You could also feed him a rice cereal (mix w/ water...formula for extra calories). At 9 months i usually had my kids eating cereal with whatever I could mush up (ie. bananas, sweet potato, peas, carrots...), plus they would have about 8 oz of formula or breast milk about 4 times a day. This all depends on your baby as well. You definitely don't want to over feed him. Now keep in mind that your pediatrician generally knows what they are talking about...if you are still unsure you could get another opinion from a doctor. People like to try to parent our kids, or give us advice when it isn't asked for. So you be the judge. Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps some.

we had the same problem with our son. After many test and many people saying"why don't you feed that kid" our new pediatrician did a bone scan. Turns out our son has a genetic disorder that makes him grow slower. He'll get there eventually, it will just take him a while. She said it is actually common. Our 3 year olds' bones are the size of a 2 year old. There is nothing we ca do she says, just as long as he eats he is okay. Better to have a skinny healthy baby than a fat obese 100 pound one year old.

i had the same problem with my 2 kids. they were peanuts but the doctor says as long as they eat, they are fine. They were just small babies. they were both in the low percentile range but the doctor said that was fine because every time we took them, they had steadily increased in all their percentiles. My 5 year old has now sprouted up but my 3 year old is still a little guy and he eats anything and everything. But the doctor says not to worry about it, that is just how they are.
Your baby will be fine. Just don't try to "plump" him up by giving him a lot of fatty foods because that can lead to diabetes. He will be fine and will soon catch up to everyone else.

I have same situation with my doter, for 2 years now, she is 3.
So what...may be your son to active? I don't think he is bones skinny, don't try to puss hem to eat.He take as more as hes body need. If steel worry just go to nutrition doctor and he will make a special diet plane for your son.
Good luck.

my 9 month old has the same problem only weighing 15 pounds, pretty close to your son. the most imporatnt thing is not only his weight however what his height to weight ratio is. if your dr isnt concerned by it, than you really shouldnt be either. however i might suggest that they check his metabolism, to be on the safe side. i started giving my 9mo old more table foods, and he has starting putting some weight on.

my daugther always on the very bottom line in the growth chart. She is now 4 and a half years old and weighs 13 kg. Paediatrican is not worried at all, he keeps telling me that as long as she has energy, she is fine. She hardly ever eats and worries me alot but when i talk to other parents, they all say that their child hardly eats too.

Eat right and exercise. For example, jog, swim, sport, aerobics. Something that's vigorous activity and keeps your heart rate up. Try eating more protein, such as protein shakes, bars also eat healthy dont waste your time on all that junk foods its just making you more out of shape!

If your doctor says not to worry....then don't worry about it. He may be growing tall and then fill out. you can add almond butter and avocados to his meals to get extra calories into his diet though. Stay away from peanuts in case he is allergic to them.

If your doctor is not worried, neither should you. Everyone who questions if you are feeding him properly is insulting to you. If you still concerned, it's better to consult a nutritionist

look dont worry about it, it will blow over keep on going the way that you are feeding him now. sometimes that is what happens but eventually he will be putting on a bit more weight, but do not over feed him
