As a counselor and pastor, I often suggest that couples are more likely to be compatible if:

1) They are both Ss or both Ns. This ensures that they think in similar ways.

2) They are opposites in the three other dimensions (E-I, T-F, J-P). This allows each person to complement each other's strengths and weaknesses.

For example, I'm and ENTJ and my wife is an INFP. We're both very intuitive and have strengths that make up for each other's weaknesses.

Of course, all relationships require an incredible amount of patience, love and understanding. Any combination can work just fine if both people are willing to make it work, regardless of the cost.

Your local library may have a book on the MBTI.

Keirsey's book "Please Understand Me II" has very detailed descriptions of the various types: http://keirsey.com/pumII.html This site also gives you an overview of the different types of temperaments.

I've seen the personality pathways site, also, and I thought it was pretty good.

Hope this helps.
