Don't you think that J.K Rowling got most of her Potter ideas by Star Wars Saga? like Anakin Skywalker as "the chosen one" and Harry Potter as "the boy who live"? both movies related to the dark and light side. Star Wars= Jedi and Sith HP= Wizard & Dark Wizard. Star Wars = Red light saber for the bad guys. Harry Potter= 3 unforgiven spells only used for the bad guys. Star Wars= Anakin Skywalker eventually turned to the dark side (he had to choose between the light side and the dark side)HP= Harry Potter will have to choose between what's right and what's easy...

Most stories are alike because they share Joseph Cambell's six stages of the hero's quest. They consist of, The Call, The Journey, Helpers and Guides, The Other, The Transformation, and The Treasure.

The Call: In this case, it was the plead for help from Princess Leia in Star Wars, and for Harry, when Hagrid told him that he was a wizard. At this point, the heroes are hesitant of leaving their familiar home. Remember, Harry was like, no way I'm a wizard, and stuff. And Luke didn't want to leave his aunt and uncles farm or whatever.

The Journey: Pretty simple, the hero leaves his familar home and this is where most of hte adventures happen.

Helpers and Guides: They are Obi-Wan-Kenobi and Professor Dumbledore. These characters also take form of the Wise Old Man or the Good Mother. (Gandalf and that shiny woman in some forest, I forgot her name, are also helpers and guides.)

The Other: This is when it gets tricky. They're sometimes the Antagonists, (Darth Vader and Voldemort) but usually the other is none other than the protagonist's dark side. Remember, Luke had to struggle with the dark side of the force inside him, and I guess for Harry, when he started getting the feelings of wanting to attack dumbledore in book 5, it's a stretch.

The transformation: The hero emotionally changes as the story progresses. They mature.

The Treasure: Of course the goal of the whole story, but usually what happens is that the hero will find a different treasure than the original treasure he's after. Like Luke, he just wanted to defeat Darth Vader, but in the end he saves his father's soul I guess for lack of better words, and he finds his "sister," even though she was with him the whole time...and with Harry, I don't know what his treasure will be since we don't know if he'll even live.

This theory of the hero's quest applies to most stories, so that's why you see similarities.

I think that both Lucas and Rowling got their ideas from historic literature, such as J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Greek mythology as well as classic literature such as Homer (The iLiad, The Odyssey).

The problem is that in great modern movies, there is nothing New! It's just all the same stuff recycled in up-to-date language and style. But otherwise, it's the same old stuff over and over.
HEY! Kind of like the music on the radio! Brittnay Spears and other pop-music people just recycling R&B stuff! The crap on the radio is the same crap I heard in the 80's and the 70's being reused from the 60's and the 50's!

Most movies are related like that, i just think star wars did a better job. Realistically, she based her book on larry potter, where there was many of the same characters involved, except that he just went to a regular shool with regular professors. They tried to sue her for it, but i don't know whether or not she had to pay it, all i know is that she was still able to make her movies and books and now she's rich from it.

Such themes are common in many movies. Even "Lord of the Rings" had the theme of a chosen king and the ringbearer. Different weapons for the good and bad guys. Eragon also uses the theme of a chosen one as the dragon rider.

Similarly in Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe except they had 4 chosen ones.

watch more movies and you'll find similar themes in many movies

LOTS of books and movies operate on this premise. Besides dark side vs. light side I see very few similarities.

sounds plausible, but just because some things are in common doesn't mean thats where she got it. i mean honestly isnt it always like that: good vs. evil, all that mumbo jumbo

They are all ripoffs of the Bible and the Jesusa story, which was a ripoff from other stories.
