That is way too much money for Nate Clements. Clements just got lucky that the salary cap got a big bump in his free agent season. He's a better than average corner, but he isn't a Champ Bailey.

As a 49er fan this has been in my head since I first found out. I see it 2 ways; First, $10 mill is too much to give to any DB not named Champ Bailey. And second, hell yeah it was worth it. York finally stood up and and did what he had to do to get the guy they needed. The 49ers biggest need was at CB. A guy like Clements comes around only so often and Nolan realized this. Niners are coming up.

No way, but I don't think SF was stupid, just really desprate and would agree to throw out however much money he wanted
and Viking Brethren, that would have been a dumb move if the Chargers took him
1) too much $$ (which he's not worth) and we needed to resign Dielman and Phillips
2) If Jammer continues to play like he did last season he is one of the top CBs in the league, and we've investing alot in Cromartie, so having another high $ CB is stupid
3) AJ is a notorius penny pincher (atleast in the fact that he doens't risk big money on reputation, he evaluates deeply) and he's NEVER spend that much, probably not on anyone.

Of course he is. I was hoping my Chargers would have grabbed him up as the only weak link to our chance at the Superbowl next season is Cornerback. You have to consider all the factors if you are answering this question or pondering going to get him as a General Manager. First, he is a quality starting Cornerback for the NFL, that in itself is much too rare. Second, he is a quality return man. Third, the Cap is rising and you have to compete in dollars to compete on the field. Fourth, he was the best available right now. Fifth, it is a relative number, we all know how the Cap games are played and the Team can always release a guy in the middle of his contract for low productivity. Sixth, ok this one is from Fantasy, but this guy really helped me due to his defensive combined with return numbers, a top defensive scorer in many scoring formats.

No way, these are some inflated contracts these guys are getting; look at the contracts Clements, Adalius Thomas, and Leonard Davis just got. Practically $50 million over the life of each contract. That's just ridiculous.

there's no way he's worth 10 Million $'s per season, especially for an 8 year contract, that is way too long of a contract offer to him, and he will definately not last all 8 years, probably not even for 3 more years, just like when A-Rod signed for 10 years with Texas Rangers, and look how much he wanted out now, and how much of a wasted signing that was for them since they still have to pay him like 1/2 the $$$ to play for the Yankees, which is same thing for Webber, 6ers pay him 20M$'s this year and 23M$'s next year, and pistons only pay him 300K

No. There isn't a CB who's ever played the game who is worth $10M a season. San Francisco wasted a lot of money on this kid.
