Rap now-a-days is about money, sex, big butts, big rims on stupid cars, that people spend all of their money on just to look cool
Rap used to be about stikin it to the man.
Rap used to be about social up-heaval, fighting for rights, speaking the truth. True Rap, in the mainstream atleast, does not exist.
R&B is dead. Computerised voices, over a rap beat. Dance dance dance. It means absolutly nothing. A bunch of primitive sex fiend posers.
Country is also dead. Country today is hollywood backwash with no meaning or feeling, over produced garbage sell-outs. Country today is polished pop/rock.
So, I will continue to listen to the true music, most of which I doubt anyone on here has ever given a chance. Yes I take it seriously, and so should you. Music is a dying artform, that should be being used in our favor, to bring about a change in society. It is art, and it is power. It used to mean something. But all of the dinosaurs in the big-buisiness saw that they could make a buck, and totally destroyed any integrity there once was. Music was once a weapon, but now it is just another tool used by the media, and or government to hold us down with stupidity, to get us to buy cars, and cool clothes, and spend our money on trying to fit in. Why must we always fit in? Break the chain! The only way our society ever changed, is by people not fitting in. Make up your mind to bring back music as a weapon!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you are trying to make up our mind based on your opinion of what music should be.

Sorry dude, but you are powerless to control what people do with their music.

None of those genres are dead to the people who listen, enjoy, dance and purchase music..

I think youre not looking hard enough.

Immortal Technique for example, is a good rapper who talks about politics and such and uses music as a weapon.

Willie Nelson is still out there makin some damn good country music.

But yes, you do have a point about mainstream music. And I have to agree about most country and most rap. Although not all, as I just pointed out.

yeah, and watch what happens when another waco occurs. the atf tried to use music as a weapon, but it failed! music is an expression of the spirit, regardless of who makes it, or why. i don't like many forms of music, but it has no less the spirit of its creator as if it were mozart, bethoven, or the beatles, or tony bennett. i grew up liking pop music, but liked all forms, until; heavy metal and rap came out. they were an expression of their generations, but i was not in tune with such, and refused to listen to it. but it is still music to those who do!

Rap was not originally about "sticking it to the Man". The type of rap you are discussing is referred to as "Conscious Rap" and is only one of many types all of which stemmed from rap's progenitors. Conscious rap is still alive and well, perhaps you are not seeking it out.
