My father in law said the same thing. In the older computers (the ones just starting), they contained mercury. Of course they no longer put them in computers and are remaid. Remember, the other computers also used to look like tv's instead of the computers they are now. I asked my doctor about that. Laptops are perfectly safe and as I did it might benefit to ask your doctor about it. Your father in law is not doing it to scare you. It's just like the question of using a microwave. There is questions about them but not much evidence to back it up. Try not to stress to much about it (even though you will stress for awhile, especially if this is your first). The only other thing it could do is strain your eyes, but all you have to do then is not focus as much on the screen and have good enough lighting. :) There are alot of advice and some scare you and are unwarrented. Just take it as a grain of salt and hear it, but don't let it scare you. When you are pregnant you are an advice magnet for others.

18 weeks pregnant with first.

No, I'm on a laptop right now and I'm 6 months pregnant. Occasionally your laptop could feel hot if you've been using it for a while, and in that case you should move it onto a table instead of your legs just for better comfort. Also, give yourself a break every so often to stand up and stretch and walk around a little. But no, it will not harm the baby at all.

Is it okay to use my computer?
Several recent large recent studies have found no link between the electromagnetic radiation from a video display terminal (VDT) and an increased risk of miscarriage. To be on the safe side, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists advises sitting at least 18 inches away from your computer to minimize potential exposure.

Ask your doctor first, but in my opinion, radiation is in the air too.
There was a hysteria about cell phone towers radiation and it has been proved unfounded.
when you turn on the radio, your cordless phone, your microwave and even when you turn on the light is like a non ionizing electromagnectic radiation.
Finally, you're practically bathing in this type of radiation all the time anyway. Cell phone towers, television and radio broadcasts, other people's cell phones and wifi networks, the EMF noise from every electronic device. It's all around you all the time.
Again ask your doctor to put your mind at ease.
Good luck
cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is safe don't worry! The only thing I can think of is that some kinds get hot on the bottom & you should make sure that your stomach doesn't get too hot. I found this website, it's the first question on the page. Hope this helps!

during the period of pregnancy, beside doing your daily chores,it is best to learn form the three monkeys----see no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil.Because your heart and mind is closely link to the baby, practising them will develope kindness in the mind of the baby when he/she is born.As long as you are not stressing your self,it is ok and of health for your self and baby,it is best to take more vegetables and less meat, good luck and best of health.
