I just didn't get the scene when the plane crashed and they told the mayor at the school. I mean, I get that it was supposed to mock Bush and 9/11, but it just wasn't funny. Was there really a joke there that other people laughed at? To me, it just seemed kind of sad.

Have to agree with the Bush and 9/11 mockery; it just was not that funny. Sometimes satire is not really humorous, and this is the case with that bit in the episode. The Prom Night Dumpster Baby, however, was a riot......

Family guy has always mixed it's humor with social commentary.
Whether you think it's sad or funny, it reminds us just how incompetent Bush was/is.
