He becomes a cruel and unfeeling person who will hurt anyone without remorse but remains handsome and young looking but his portrait grows uglier as his spirit grows uglier. Until he dies then they switch and the painting is of him as a young beautiful man and his body is old, haggard and ugly.

The mystery? Elements of inner and outer beauty...evil disguised as good. The portarit didn't just age (in the same way as Dorian gray would have); it became the physical manifestation of his inner evil, sin.

the mystery is that dorian gray never ages but his picture does. how does that even happen? also...that dorian become more cruel and it never shows on him, but on his portrait. creepy.
