Marriage between siblings ?

I read of a German couples who are brother and sister; are going to court to live as man and wife. They are already had 4 kids.
I was wondering why it is wrong for sibling to be married. Not that I agree with it. It sounds real sick to me. But I was just thinking. When did this taboo start and why ? Anybody knows ?

Because, generally, you end up having kids that have some sort of severe deformity (Mental retardation, missing limbs etc.). It is largely a genetics issue and, because of the risk of severe problems in the offspring, it has also become a social issue - or taboo. The german couple who are brother and sister and already have four kids are irresponsible and selfish because they only thought of how it would affect them and not how it will affect generations of their offspring in the future. Besides that, you're right, it's just plain sick.

Its both wrong scientifically as well as socially. Siblings tend to be the carriers for the same genetic disorders and if they procreate, their children have a MUCH higher risk of genetic problems, mental problems, etc. Socially, there are problems related to the fact that the a normal attachment to a sibling should not result in romantic feelings or interest. The relationship dynamic between siblings and that of an intimate couple are based on very different roots. Studies have shown that even siblings who weren't raised together show disgust at the idea of harboring romantic interest in their sibling. I think its just hardwired in our chemistry to find it appalling as a subconscious way of knowing that genetically we would mess a kid up!

I think of it this way..

Would you want to marry your own father and consemate that relationship?

If you sleep with your brother there is a good chance he has near identical parts to your father.

On top of the risks that miscarriage or death will come to your children or worse yet, mental disabilities or physical handicaps that have been tested and verified b/c same blood and genes mutate the genetic make up and natural set up that involves two strangers to chemically attrack for the very reason to not be attracked to their sibling or parent.

It is wrong for siblings to procreate, because in the animal world, inbreeding causes genetic defects such as infertility, and other diseases.

The reason you and a many other people see the idea of having sex with our siblings as wrong, is because in our minds we don't see them as anything else but our brothers and sisters. It is like being a brother or a sister is a species of its own.

These German couples see things differently. Also I would not be surprised if there was some mind control dating back to Hitler's time involved. I heard it said that he wanted to create perfect humans. I think they had to be German and have blonde hair and blue eyes, in order to be considered perfect. Which I think is really silly. because why would you want to create a "perfect human race" if you were excluded from the equation. Hitler had dark hair, and I am not sure what colour his eyes were. But I know his heart was black.

People in remote villages used to do it to keep land in the family. Now it's just plain incest.
There are also genetic problems that can arise where a child can suffer health issues or be mentally handicapped.
And I have to ask, "Why would you want to have sex with your sister anyway?"

There is some fatal disease that can be passed on to the children if too-close relatives procreate. When I was a social worker 20 yrs ago I had the oldest living kid on my caseload that had this disease, and he was 7 years old.

Basically it is morally wrong, as you are committing incest by sleeping with family.
Genetically, the rouge genes are dominant in same blood unions, and the chances of having children, with defects is very real. The children can be born blind, or deaf, have physical deformities.
Even having sex with a cousin twice removed is a risk.

With siblings is genetically inappropriate. With cousins, it's simply taboo. Of course, I'm happy that my lover isn't at all related to me!

Medically, couple with too close gene will have a higher chance of having a child with unknown genetic disease or problem, such as deform. Morally, it's unacceptable, should their children address their parents "uncle/mother" or "auntie/father"?

I know the medical reason why we shouldn't: procreation might result that the children end up being retarded.
