I do not wear one, so I do not have first hand experience, but it's good to help shut out the light if you are a light sleeper, no pun intended. If you are easily woken up by someone turning on a light, say a spouse, housemate, roommate, etc., then it will be beneficial.

apparently, it can also help "achieve a deeper level of sleep."

Maybe it's to keep your night beauty treatments on your face from getting rubbed off while you sleep or to keep your moisturizer err..moist if it's a muslin mask sheet.. The beauty stores have these socks or gloves to wear after you apply lotion while you sleep to keep them moist too.. I guess might be e same concept.. Usually those that can help you sleep better are thick eye masks which can help add a slight pressure to the eyes and completely shut out all light sources.. As you've mentioned that the mask is "cute", it might be something that has the same effects as an eye mask but it's a funny mask to be put on the entire face for comedic purposes..(P.S:Do not do that too often though, there's some superstition in it, the old folks say that your soul wanders off after you sleep and if you put that funny mask on, your soul might not recognise your face and leave you for good! Up to u to believe or not ya..)They are usually more beneficial for light sleepers and some of them with the blue liquid within can be chilled or heated with warm water and left on the eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles respectively. Some are even therapeutic if it's stuffed with herbs, dried flowers(lavender) etc. Ha.. sorry for bein so long-winded ya, hope this answers..

Some people are light sensitive hence a sleeping mask helping by blocking out the light. It is not needed by most people as when we shut our eyes our eyelids act as a shield.
So more often than not it is just a sleeping accessory!

I wear one. I have roommates (8 to a room) and it comes in perfect handy. It also helps with products u put on ur face (eyes). It'll help it stay on ur face (eyes) better while u toss and turn and the product will be able to do it's job better. I have bags and dark circles under my eyes, so after I apply my products, when I climb into bed I slide the mask on. See improvement in the morning.
